In 2020, VCU implemented a comprehensive plan for health equity education that engages students, faculty, staff, and the community. This work subsequently merged with ongoing efforts to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion. As a consequence, VCU Office of the Senior Vice President for Health Sciences has launched a faculty professional development program to assist faculty in addressing issues such as health equity and race and racism in medicine in the curriculum and pedagogical spaces. This health equity/DEI work is amplified by the voices of our students, our patients, and our community, that are now fueling calls for change in the diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our faculty community will play an integral role in shaping the future of health sciences education at VCU and equipping our future workforces to provide culturally competent, high-quality health care for increasingly diverse communities. Join Kevin Harris, PhD, MSC, Senior Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, SOM; and Lisa Webb, EdD, CRC, Assistant VP for Health Sciences – Faculty Development, Recruitment and Retention, OSVPHS, as we discuss these issues. By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

• Converse with colleagues about the intersections of health equity, structural racism, and health sciences education.
• Describe available institutional resources for creating inclusive and social justice oriented curriculum and learning environments.
• Participate in new systemic racism and implicit bias faculty learning communities.
