DEI Education Lunch & Learn - Equity & Justice in Action: Health Equity as an Imperative & Health Justice as a Framework for Advocacy and Access In-Person / Online
Summary: Providing equitable health care is inherent in the mission of VCU and VCU Health System. This lunch and learn will introduce the concept of health equity, how health disparities research and community participatory research work to drive health equity, and ways in which health equity can be implemented in the everyday practice of medicine at VCU.
Learning Objectives/Outcomes:

Define health equity, health disparities, social determinants of health, and health justice and explore their interrelatedness in the practice of medicine.

Understand how health disparities research and community based participatory research are enhancing our understanding of health equity, including reviewing examples of this work being done at VCU/VCUHS.

Explore practical steps that can be implemented in medical practice to promote health equity, health justice, and advocacy for the patients seen at VCU/VCUHS.
