Stepping In Part 2 (in person)

Stepping In Part 2 (in person) In-Person

Learn to support your School of Medicine colleagues and respond to situations where you witness discriminatory behavior.

Participants will learn how to respond appropriately to discriminatory behavior in three different scenarios:

(1) When a patient or family member exhibits discriminatory behavior;

(2) When a team member exhibits discriminatory behavior, and

(3) When a visitor to our health system exhibits discriminatory behavior.

Workshop Overview: Through video scenarios, interactive debriefing discussions, and improvisation experiences, participants will discuss and practice responses to the scenarios in a safe and supportive environment. Please join us in learning how to address discrimination and other mistreatment in our clinical and learning environments. While the training has more of a clinical focus, the skills presented are very adaptable to non-clinical settings. Participants must commit to completing both Part 1 and Part 2 to complete the training.    (Register here for Part 1 (April 17):  https://vcuhealth.libcal.com/event/10489777.)

You will receive an optional pre- and post- survey to help evaluate the effectiveness of the training; Stepping In (TM) is part of a research study in collaboration with UVA and other major health systems.
