Getting Started in Research in the SOM: Processes and Resources

Objectives:

  • Become familiar with the process for research at VCU
  • Review resources available to the researcher at VCU
  • Discuss obstacles to research and strategies to overcome them
  • Become familiar with the CCTR
  • Know how to access research resources available thru the Wright Center for CCTR
  • Define “human subjects research” that needs to be submitted to the IRB
  • Know how the IRB review process works and where to find IRB resources
  • Be aware of and know where to access resources for conducting animal research
  • Identify the library liaisons for the School of Medicine
  • Describe how librarians can support your research
